New books, student files discarded at elem. school

EARTH DAY KIDS Ci’N YA AND NAMIR SPENT THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER TRYING TO SAVE GOOD BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR THEIR OWN RECYCLE PROGRAM BEFORE THE PHILADELPHIA TRASH RECYCLING TRUCK SCOOPED WHAT WAS
DISCARDED AS RECYCLABLE TRASH. A NEWS MAN ARRIVED FROM CHANNEL 6 NEWS AND BEGAN VIDEOING
AND INTERVIEWING THE EARTH DAY KIDS.
THE STUDENTS WERE SAD THEY COULD NOT SAVE ALL THE BOOKS.
AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A GREEN SCHOOL OR LEEDS CERTIFIED SCHOOL
COULD NOT RECYCLE THIS MATERIAL.

PHILADELPHIA – June 20, 2012 (WPVI) — Philadelphia school officials want to know why perfectly good, and in some cases, un-opened books were found discarded outside Commodore John Barry Elementary School at 59th and Race in West Philadelphia.

The situation has already caused quite a reaction.

“Wow, so this is where our taxes go?” asked one parent.
