Our Fellow Earth Day Kids Ci’Nya, Kayvon, and Kylah won Hands Across Philadelphia’s 500-Word Essay Competition

Hands Across Philadelphia hosted their 3rd Annual essay contest to give Philadelphia Middle and High School students an avenue of creativity through written expression and to reward them for their efforts. !! Read the subject, rules, and prizes below!!


Subject: What do you think will be the lasting legacy of the Presidency of Barack Obama?

Rules: All students in grades 6 to 12 are eligible. Entries must be written in English, only one entry per student.
Please Note: Proper spelling and grammar will be considered in scoring your essay. Do NOT cut and paste.

Length: 500 Word Minimum – 1000 Word Maximum.

Page settings: 12 font, double spaced, Times New Roman, all pages must be typed. Submissions by PDF documents via email only.

Prizes: (25) $100 cash Prizes (25) $50 gift cards from Brown’s Shop Rite and other rewards. Surprise gifts from local Retailers to be announced at Awards Ceremony.



We are extremely proud of our fellow Earth Day Kids for not only participating in the contest, but bringing home the gold!!! They were awarded $100.00 each for their essays! We also want the world to know that we love the mission of Hands Across Philadelphia, and the impact they have on the community is outstanding. We have completed over 200 community service hours with this organization, and we are proud of it!
